Want to help keep clothing out of landfill and extend the life of your wardrobe? Learn visible mending techniques to transform well-loved garments into unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.
Join Kate from slow fashion brand, Cactus Revival, for this beginner-friendly session that focuses on hand stitching only - no sewing machines are used - so you'll fit right in if you've never picked up a needle and thread before, or you're an experienced sewist.
We’ll learn how to cover marks, patch holes or simply embellish an item to make it unique using whip stitch, running stitch - with an introduction to Sashiko stitching - and back stitch.
With the basics covered you’ll be able to jump right into visibly mending your clothes at home with little more than a needle and thread.
Not only does mending our clothes help to reduce our fashion footprint, it also gives us the feel-good feelings that come from hand stitching. The calming and repetitive movements of hand sewing have long been known to reduce stress and promote well-being.
